What’s Blooming This Month – April in the Garden

April is here, and my backyard cutting garden in Nowra is easing into the gentle glow of Autumn. The days are cooler, the light is softer, and the garden is beginning to wind down after a colourful summer.

This month, you’ll find a mix of fading Summer favourites and the first signs of Autumn’s charm. Here's a little look at what's blooming now, what’s available at the flower stand, and how you can make the most of the season.

🌸 April in Bloom

I’m seeing some beautiful transitions in the garden this month:

  • Zinnias – The last of these vibrant summer blooms are still putting on a show, but not for much longer!

  • Cosmos – Light and airy, they’ve been a garden favourite and are finishing up as the cooler weather settles in.

  • Lisianthus – Delicate and elegant, still blooming for now— I’m hoping for another flush if we get a warm spell.

  • Feverfew & Summer Snapdragons – Adding soft textures and whimsy to the mix before they wrap up for the season.

  • Chrysanthemums – Budding early! These autumn favourites might not make it to Mother’s Day, so I’m planning Easter bouquets to celebrate their timely arrival.

  • Dahlias – Loving the cooler days and hitting their stride. Full of soft and colour and cottage charm.

  • Scabiosa – Light and fluttery, these are dancing beautifully in the breeze right now.

  • Echinacea & Delphiniums – Still in bloom and adding structure and height to arrangements.

💐 What’s Available at the Flower Stand

Here’s what you’ll find throughout April:

  • Small and Large Vases – Ready-to-go arrangements, perfect for gifts or weekend tables (vase included!)

  • One-variety bunches – When something is blooming in abundance, I’ll bunch it up and pop it at the stand

  • Hand-tied bouquets – Full of garden colour, freshly picked to order

  • Custom bouquets – Small or large, available with 24 hours’ notice

  • DIY Flower Buckets – Perfect for entertaining or just a fun way to get creative at home

🐣 Planning Something Special for Easter?

This year, the chrysanthemums look like blooming early, so I’m planning some beautiful seasonal bouquets for Easter weekend. If you’re after something special for the table or as a gift, get in touch early to place your order.

📍 Stay in the Loop

I restock the porch pick-up flower stand regularly through the growing season. To find out what’s blooming and when posies are available:

From our garden to your vase, every bloom is a little piece of Nowra grown with love, care, and a whole lot of charm.

Thanks for following along with the seasons!
